Schools Pilot Programme

Leo Rouja is the Manager of our Schools Programme. Leo is working with other teachers to pilot a range of activities and initiatives in 2006, so that we can develop a resource kit for other schools to use later in the year. If you would like to help with this process, please email her.
Some of the great ideas we’ve had so far include:
- Letter-writing between Bermudian and Nepali school children
- Trading paintings and murals between the two countries (The ISIS Foundation has already done this in conjunction with Art in the Park, another great Bermudian charity)
- Developing a kit of teaching resources on Nepal and particularly the children in Nepal, so that teachers can use this in their classrooms for kids from age 5 – 18.
- Getting involved in school ‘World Days’ or ‘Diversity Days’, where students at the school turn each classroom into another country, with resources, art, food, and pictures from other countries. These kinds of projects are held at several schools on the island in 2006.
- Getting kids from Bermuda and Nepal to develop books with photos showing what a normal day is like in their lives, so that even very young children can begin to understand the details of each other’s lives, including the similarities.
- Introducing Nepali poetry and mythology into English classes.
- Involving students in fundraising for specific projects in Nepal – perhaps a new library, or books, or a classroom.
